Description

A festive Red, White, and Blue layered cake perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box Betty Crockerâ„¢ Super Moistâ„¢ white cake mix
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • Red and blue food color
  • 1 container Betty Crockerâ„¢ Rich & Creamy vanilla frosting

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil, and eggs with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  3. Divide batter evenly into two bowls. Add red food color to one bowl and blue food color to the other, mixing until the desired color is reached.
  4. Pour the red batter into one prepared pan and the blue batter into the other.
  5. Bake according to package directions for 8-inch rounds (usually 29-33 minutes) or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cooling racks and cool completely.
  7. Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread about half of the vanilla frosting over the top.
  8. Place the second cake layer on top of the first. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  9. Decorate as desired, perhaps with fresh berries or sprinkles.

Notes

  • Ensure cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • For a taller cake, you can bake three thinner layers by dividing the batter into three portions and baking in smaller pans or for less time.
