Description

A straightforward recipe for cooking corned beef brisket until tender.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 corned beef brisket (3-4 lbs) with spice packet
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 4 cups water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. Place the corned beef, spice packet contents, onion, and water or broth in a large pot or Dutch oven.
  2. Cover the meat with liquid. Add more water if needed to fully submerge the brisket.
  3. Bring the liquid to a boil over high heat.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer gently.
  5. Cook for 3 to 4 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the corned beef from the liquid and let it rest on a cutting board for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

  • Save the cooking liquid to boil cabbage or potatoes later.
  • If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
